In this poster of the Hero series, Maneki Stefy paints Benkei in the Irezumi codes, according to her contemporary vision, that of a painter and tattoo artist. The original work is a digital painting.
Benkei, the warrior monk, is one of the favorite characters in Japanese folklore. He appears in kabuki, noh theater, prints and tattooing. In this poster, Benkei is shown in the Koromo-Gawa battle, where he is pierced with arrows, and eventually dies in his final charge.
